Winter is a tricky time of year for the complexion as your skin is buffeted by bracing winds and dried out by central heating, not to mention growing rapidly paler by the day.
However, with a little bit of investigation, you can protect your skin, eliminate dry patches and add a healthier glow all with one product – the trusty foundation. Cath Ouston has been discovering the best available on the Island with a little help from the experts.
Jess Edwards at Jaks of Ryde says, “It’s important to change your foundation for the winter months. We find that customers go for a heavier skin coverage than in summer, but if you don’t fancy wearing a heavier foundation, Clarins have a fabulous new product – Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base, £26. This evens skin tone for a more luminous glow and a fresh, radiant, healthy-looking skin. It can be used alone, under or mixed-in with your usual foundation. For drier or more sensitive skins try the new Extra Comfort Foundation SPF15 £35 which illuminates the complexion and plumps, moisturises and nourishes the skin deep down.”
Mii Cosmetics offers some great foundations for this time of year. Caroline Hurley from BeCalmed in Cowes recommends Flawless Face Base SPF10, £19.95. “The consistency is really light so it can be layered up for a weightless, perfectly refined finish. Its light-diffusing particles cover imperfections to give your skin an air-brushed yet natural look all day long,” explains Caroline. Tanya Brodie from The Beauty Spot in Newport recommends Mii’s Illuminating Face Base, £25.50. “It’s a light, quick to apply, colour matching foundation which gives a sheer, dewy sheen for youthful glowing skin. It has an intelligent formula which fills in lines and smoothes for a wonderful, well rested and relaxed complexion.”
Lisa Garth at Gibbs and Gurnell in Ryde recommends Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Lift and Firm Make Up SPF15, £32. “Ceramide is our most popular foundation, especially amongst the 40 plus age group. It has a luxurious feeling, rich, creamy formula with superb anti-aging properties. It also contains Vitamins A, C and E which moisturise and provide antioxidant protection, perfect for this time of year.” There is also Elizabeth Arden’s wonderful Eight Hour Cream available from £18 to add a little extra help wherever needed whether that is lips, hands or dry patches on the face!”
